High quality bamboo panels from Ethiopian Highland bamboo species, produced at Adal Industrial PLC, Ethiopia

The Eastern Africa Bamboo Project (EABP) funded by the Common Fund for Commodities/CFC/ has carried out tests on the industrial properties and compatibility of the bamboo species in a research institute in Malaysia based on the request from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MoARD). It has been reported that the test results are promising for the industrial applications of both species. High quality bamboo panel products: (namely Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), Strand boards (OSBs), ply boards and laminated bamboo lumber), bamboo curtains/blinds, pulp and paper, toothpicks, match-stick, incense-sticks, scaffolding sleepers, charcoal, etc can be produced. This is a great contribution for the private sectors and other beneficiaries as it eliminates the need to perform similar preliminary tests which would normally require a considerable amount of funds and time.
